Die Noord-Kaap provinsie, oënskynlik, 'n groot barre landskap, is waarskynlik een van die streke wat die minste verken is en dit bied aan die ernstige avontuur-soeker 'n groot uitdaging.

Ster van Suid-Afrika

Hierdie landskap ondergaan periodieke droogtes en skroeiende sonskyn-dae, tog is dit verstommend geseënd met van die mees dramatiese vertonings van natuurprag. Nêrens is dit meer sigbaar as in Namakwaland nie, een van die ses blomme-koningkryke van die wêreld. In die lente bars die plante oop in 'n see van blommeprag met 'n asemrowende tapyt van fantastiese kleure.

Die ontdekking van die 83 karaat "ster van Suid-Afrika" was die begin van die wêrels se grootste diamant-stormloop. Die gevolg was, wat later bekend geword het as "Die groot Gat" by Kimberley, die grootste en diepste, handgemaakte gat ter wêreld. Baie van die ou geboue bestaan nog steeds, as ook baie museums. 'n Deel van die oorspronklike "storm-dorp" of "die opelug-museum" is langs "die groot gat" gerekonstrueer. Dit het ook 'n aantrekkingskrag van sy eie.

Plek van die groot geraas

Net so skouspelagtig in die provinsie is die Augrabies-waterval, 'n gepaste naam afgelei van die Khoi-woord wat "die plek van die groot geraas" beteken. Dit is ook die fokuspunt van die Augrabies Nasionale Park. Die magtige Oranje-rivier val met 'n groot geraas oor die graniet-rotse in die rafyn sowat 200 meter diep, wat dit die wêreld se sesde groot waterval maak.

Anderkant die Oranje-rivier lê die Kalahari-woestyn, sowat 120 miljoen hektaar groot en wat ook ander lande soos Botswana, Namibië en Zimbabwe insluit. Van die 12 uilspesies en 67 roofvoël- en aasvoëlspesies wat in Suid-Afrika gekry word, is daar 7 en 10 onderskeidelik in die Kalahari. Die Augrabies-valle en die Kalahari-Gemsbok Nasionale Park is van die bekendste reservate in die Kalahari.

Reg oor die Noord-Kaap is daar wonderlike geleenthede vir avonture soos rivier-roei, jag, voetslaan of 4x4 paaie en ook skilderagtige ritte en wildbesigtiging. Ander plekke van belang is die ou grot en rotskuns, die werktuie van die latere steentydperk en meer onlangs die plekke wat herinner aan die Anglo boere-oorlog.
