The Bluff is Durban's most prominent natural landmark - an impressive thick, green headland forming the southern quayside of the Durban port, which separates the Bluff from other busier, more congested KZN seaside towns.
The Bluff itself comprises several suburbs, some of which meander along the KwaZulu Natal coastline harbouring a secret - that of superb fishing, surfing and swimming beaches. Some of the more fortunate Bluff residents may enjoy splendid sea views which would include witnessing giant tankers and shipping liners entering and leaving Durban Harbour.

The Bluff's most popular beach is Blue Flag Bluff Ansteys Beach, where on any given day you can watch surfers, body boarders and kite surfers riding the waves. Life doesn’t get much better than at Ansteys Beach, Bluff - the place for watching spectacular sunrises and catching a late afternoon wave.
Bluff Brighton Beach is renowned for its world famous surf spot 'Cave Rock', enticing surfers from all over the world to come and ride the supertube waves as large swells break across the rock reef. At low tide the surf ebbs to expose rock pools, ideal for children to play in.
The lesser known BluffGarvies Beach is definitely left to the more experienced surfer, as the surf is rough, and not ideal for casual paddlers.

Otherattractionsinclude the Bluff National Park Golf Club, which is surrounded by magnificent wetlands teaming with wildlife. This 18 hole golf course includes water hazards, and a two-tier green protected by a dam on the final hole.
Yachties will enjoy the Bluff Yacht Club located on the banks of the Silt Channel of Durban Harbour, and the nature lover can revel in the quiet at Bluff Nature Reserve, which provides excellent walking trails, and bird viewing opportunities in two bird hides.

Learn about days gone by at the Bluff Whaling Museum, which displays a harpoon gun casing, flensing knife and pieces of whale teeth and ribs among other things. Whaling started on the Bluff in 1909, and ended in 1975, as it became a controversial topic, as well as making the lives of Bluff residents a misery, as the smell of decaying whale flesh invaded every part of their homes.

Known as 'the friendly suburb', the Bluff is a place visitors return to again and again, as it offers whale watching from June to November, dolphin watching all year round, and the crayfish season is open from March to November. During June / July there's an energetic buzz of fishermen and locals when the annual Sardine Run takes place, which is considered to be the greatest shoal on Earth. Water sports include kite-boarding, kayaking and diving, then indulge in more exercise at the Bluff, Brighton Beach Tennis Club, or hit the local Bluff Virgin Active gym.
