The small town of Humansdorp lies at the foot of the Kouga Mountains just off the N2 about 90kms to the West of Port Elizabeth. Humansdorp takes its name from one Matthys Human, who, in 1849, gave part of his farm for the establishment of a town. Stands were laid out four years later in the shape of the British Union Flag. The town is renowned for its indigenous wooden furniture.
