National Cultural History Museum

The museum houses a vast collection of historical documents and archaeological objects dating back to the Stone Age. Various exhibits help to bring these object to life and allow us to better understand the lifestyle of the many cultures that have existed in Southern Africa.

A San Art exhibition contains paintings and engravings that bear clues to the mysterious belief system of this stone age culture that were the original inhabitants of South Africa.

The Hananwa exhibit sheds light upon the Iron Age culture of the Sotho-Tswana people, that migrated across the Limpopo River into present-day South Africa over 2,000 years ago.

The Marabastad exhibit is a fascinating window into the colourful and lively urban black communities that flourished in many South African cities before Apartheid.

The museum's art gallery has on display many important paintings and sculptures that exemplify the rich talent of the many different cultures of this country.
