Bushman Sands Game Reserve

Alicedale was once a railway junction town where steam trains would stop to fill their boilers from the New Years Dam. Those days are now gone, but today the town is once again thriving as an ecotourism destination due to the conservation efforts from the adjacent Shamwari Game Reserve.

Visitors can explore the reserve by taking a 3 hour game drive through the Bushman's River Canyon. An evening boat cruise is also available on the New Years Dam, where one can watch the the game gathering along the banks of the dam.

Golfers will enjoy the 18 hole Bushman Sands golf course, designed by Gary Player. The course includes a halfway house and after the game one can relax at the bar overlooking the 18th. Change rooms and steam rooms are also provided.

DIRECTIONS:
- from Port Elizabeth follow the N2 eastward for 50 km
- turn north onto the N10 towards Cradock
-11 km past Paterson turn right and continue for 17 km to Alicedale
