Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area

Groot Winterhoek Conservation Area was declared a wilderness area in 1985 in order to protect the region's mountain fynbos and wildlife The mountain is also an important source of clean fresh water for the Cape Town.

This rugged mountainous region has several challenging hiking trails with shelters. Although hiking can be done year-round, the Winters are typically very cold and rainy. Furthermore, heavy snowfalls are not uncommon.
