Coligny Verblyf

Coligny, which is situated next to the railway line between Lichtenburg and Johannesburg in North West Province of South Africa, was originally named Treurfontein which means spring of sadness. In 1923 it was renamed Coligny after Admiral Gaspard de Coligny, a French Huguenot who was killed in the Massacre of St Bartholomew in Paris. The town is known for its maize farming and the majority of its residents speak the Tswana language. The town of Coligny is full of rich history and offers history enthusiasts the chance to step into the past with its many sites. These sites include the British Cemetry, the Coligny Bust Monument, and Rietvlei Farm (which was the site of an Armed Protest in First World War). There are also good areas for hiking and biking.
