Imagine stepping back in time, to an age when Kings ruled and Knights protected their kingdoms. Well that's what you will find at the Tshwane Mediaeval Fayre. The Fayre will again be a 2 day event with an armoured fighting tournament, mediaeval market, crafting displays, a warhorse sword display, archery demonstrations, live bands (more than one this time), all sorts of other mediaevally type entertainment like Highland dancers and firedancers, a feasting hall with good food and beer and the Ferricinos coffee ambulance, which is essential for that Sunday morning feeling. For those who have been before, you will know how much fun the last ones were. 2011 saw the fayre going to be back to the favourite 2 day format with a full tournament and at least 12 fighters from all around South Africa competing for the honour of being the best in the country. 2011 also saw participants trying to answer some of the long standing questions about whether western armour such as plate and maille will stand up to oriental swords and arrows, and whether a mounted swordsman would be able to pierce the breastplate of a moving warrior.

There will be armoured fighting and displays of mediaeval weaponry skills by the various groups and clubs represented. Stunt shows will be performed on both days. A mediaeval village will have displays of olden day crafts such as blacksmithing and armoury.

The organisers have assured us that the new venue has real toilets, showers, overnight camping space, swimming pool, and is in a really nice setting with a kids play area too. The overnight camping is available at an extra charge and family groups of 4 or more qualify for discount.

The guys from xtribe will be providing abseiling and paintball amongst other activities so there's no getting bored over this weekend.

Directions from Johannesburg
Follow the N1 towards Pretoria and merge onto the N1 Western Bypass for approximately 14,3 kilometres. Take exit 90-Randburg toward R512 and merge onto Malibongwe Dr. Follow Malibongwe Dr for approximately 16,6 kilometres and then onto the R512 for a further 17,5 kilometres. Turn right onto the R104 and follow for approximately 1,8 kilometres. Take the 1st right into Entrance 1 Pelindaba Recreational Site.
