About the Franschhoek area:
Laid out elegantly between the majestic mountains in the beautiful Cape winelands, lies the Franschhoek Valley.
The Franschhoek Valley - first settled by French Huguenot refugees in 1688, has become the gourmet capital of South Africa. And Franschhoeks award-winning wine estates, which surround the village, boast highly acclaimed international winemakers. Feel free to tantalise your taste buds with wine tastings overlooking the vineyards. This valley could aptly be named the food and wine heartland of the country.
Franschhoek restaurants offer hearty cuisine that ranges from gourmet to rustic thus being a pleasure to every palate.
The main street of this vibrant village, is always bustling. Lined with shops that tempt, arts, crafts and galleries.
Franschhoek also beckons the return-traveller, with accommodation so inviting and homely. Ranging from cosy Bed and Breakfasts and guesthouses that truly impress, to self-catering cottages, hotels and elite country lodges, there is a favourite destination for every taste and pocket - and almost without exception, will create plans for several revisits, especially for the ever-so-romantic honeymoon.
Franschhoek Valley and its beautiful surrounds, offer many outdoor activities, such as nature walks, hiking, paragliding, horse-riding, cycling, golf and fly-fishing. The museum van de Caab and the Chocolate Tour are also firm favourites for those traveling as a family unit.
All in all, you will find that memories of your visit will include the warmth of their hospitality, the stunningly breath-taking views, and cuisine worthy of applause.
