Roodepoort Museum

The Roodepoort Museum traces the development of this region from small gold mining camps of the mid 19th century up to the modern times. The geology of the Witwatersrand is explained, and how the discovery of gold has transformed the community.

The museum consists of a fully refurbished farmhouse, containing furniture and other household items typically found in farming communities of that era. A reconstructed Victorian House displays the lavish ornate furnishings that were common among the well-to-do at the turn of the century. Furnishings from the early 20th century are also on display, including gramophones and early radio. The museum also has on display a fine collection porcelain and decorative glass.
