The Bontebok National Park was originally established to protect the once rare
bontebok from extinction. Other wildlife which can be seen in the park include the Cape mountain zebra, grey rhebok, red hartebeest, and more. Birdlife is prolific and include the secretary bird, fish eagle, and blue crane. 470
plant species can be found. Fishing enthusiasts will find large-mouth bass and carp in the Breede River which flows through a portion of the park.
