Established by Dr Cyril and Mrs Esther Adler in 1962, The Adler Museum of Medicine contains the private collection of over 40,00 fascinating medical antiques.
A reconstructed chemist shop in the museum takes one back in time to the early 20th century Johannesburg. The museum also has an African traditional healing herb shop including sangoma paraphernalia.
Sculptures, pictures, and videos, give a vivid insight into the curious practice of medicine throughout history, including a dentist's drill from the turn of the century. Techniques of alternative medicines, including Indian and Chinese medicines and acupuncture are also illustrated.
